Vodka, The Recession Proof Spirit
Results From The World’s Largest Vodka Tasting

Posted: November 10, 2011

By Jerald O’Kennard

Despite the weak US economy vodka sales remain strong with an increase of 6% in volume over last year. Our own informal barometer of the vodka market, the number of vodkas entered into our annual International Review of Spirits vodka tasting, confirms this trend with over 143 entries this year, a new record for us and probably the world. Of this number, roughly 40% were new brands or line extensions, confirming that the saturation point of the market has yet to be reached.

Also of note and probably most important for you, the quality of vodkas in the market seems to be at an all-time high as well. 64 of this year’s entries rated 90 points or higher with 33 of those also earning the distinction of being “Best Buys”, proving that you don’t have to spend $30 or more to have a great vodka experience.

Below are links to the two broad vodka categories that we reviewed: unflavored and flavored. Read the reviews, compare the notes, explore new flavors, and find some new favorites for this holiday season and beyond. Prost!
