Zweigelt is the most widely planted red grape in Austria and produces a rich, almost peppery wine with ripe cherry flavors and balanced acidity. Tannins for most examples are firm and most wines are aged in oak. Pair these wines with pork game birds and stews. There are also some notable examples of Zweigelt Rosé, which are quite dry.
