Saisons are pale gold to golden orange in color and range in alcohol from 5-8.5%. These beers have a lively carbonation, refreshing citrus and fruity hop aromas and flavors, and a lingering peppery, dry finish. Originally brewed as farmhouse ales in the Belgian province of Hainuat, these beers were first brewed in the early spring for summer consumption. Contemporary Belgian saisons are brewed year round with pale malts, and are well-dosed with English and Belgian hop varieties. In addition to traditional French and Belgian saisons, many US craft brewers have taken to brewing saisons that feature a healthy dose of American hops. Noteworthy examples of this style include: Brasserie Dupont Saison Dupont, Brewery Ommegang Hennepin and Allagash Interlude.
