Baltic porters are black in color with alcohol ranging from 7-9%. These porters have low hop aromas with hints of floral notes. Roasted malts with dark sugars, caramelized sugars and hints of licorice show in the flavor. Baltic porters may be brewed as both ales and lagers, resulting in an overall fruiter flavor profile when brewed as ales. The style was developed by English brewers to serve markets in the East. Today, some brewers are once again using top-fermenting yeast to make these beers.
