Beautiful rich amber color with a persistent blanket of fine white foam. Bold aromas of pine, grilled grapefruit, oranges, and romaine with a supple, fruity-yet-dry medium-to-full body and a creme brulee, pepper bread, and fruit cake accented finish. Very rich, balanced, and delicious; try with pies and ice cream. (tasted on Mar-11-2014)
94 • Stone Brewing Co. - 2013 Double Bastard Ale.
Deep copper color with a khaki lace. Aromas of citrus marmalade, herb bread, and pine sap with a chewy, dry-yet-fruity medium-full body and a long, tangy and peppery grilled grapefruit, oregano, and peppercorn flourish. A great hop driven strong ale. (tasted on Jan-10-2014)
94 • Rogue Ales BIG ASS BARREL Brewers Ale.
Dark reddish bronze color. Hoppy aromas of honeyed grilled citrus and stone fruits, cocoa, and pinecone with a silky, fruity-yet-dry medium-to-full body and a nicely balanced dance of chocolate pastry malt and grassy, peppery and citrus tinged hops. A well done and very drinkable marriage of British and American strong ale styles. (tasted on Mar-11-2014)
92 • Full Sail Brewing Co. Wreck the Halls Ale.
Dark copper with a ruby cast. Aromas of roasted potatoes and root vegetables, straw, singed herbs, and citrus pith with a chewy, dry-yet-fruity medium-full body and a tangy, bitter, and resinous pepper, grilled kale, mango-orange sorbet, and cedar finish. Lot of dank hop character here. (tasted on Jan-10-2014)
91 • Rogue Ales 2013 XS Dead Guy Ale.
Attractive aromas of apricot danish, green tea leaf, pine sap, and creme brulee with a chewy, fruity-yet-dry medium-full body and a well balanced orange-grapefruit marmalade on rye toast and peppercorn-like hop twirl on the finish. Flavorful fun for all hopheads. (tasted on Mar-11-2014)
88 • Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Yorkshire Stingo.
Dark copper color with a fine mousse. Aromas of baked spiced apples and banana, bees wax, and hint of polish with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a tangy creme brulee, stewed white raisin, molasses, and peppery arugula finish.
