91 • Oveja Negra 2008 The Lost Barrel Red, Maule Valley $25.
Deep, saturated blackish-purple hue. Rich, perfumed cocoa and black fruit aromas carry a lavish, expensive oak influence. A lush entry leads a generous, full-bodied palate with firm, grippy tannins and lots of intensity. Fresh, lengthy, oak-driven finish. A big, flashy blend of Syrah, Carignane, and Carmenère with a dollop of Petit Verdot. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)
90 • Korta Vineyards 2007 Gran Reserva Red, Lontue Valley $24.99.
Deep, saturated ruby-purple hue. Elegant, ripe black fruit aromas show good complexity and an expensive integrated oak accent. A ripe entry leads a generous, full-bodied palate with explosive black fruit flavors and a flashy, minty, oaky overlay. Well-structured, with drying tannins and fresh fruit acidity. Very Sonoma Valley--a bit of a hedonistic fruit-bomb style. Best with grilled meats and drinking well now. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)

A lush entry leads a rounded, full-bodied palate with a firm core of deep fruit flavors and a lavish oak undertone. Chewy tannins mark the dusty, spicy finish. A fat, flashy style to drink in youth--try with hearty winter stews. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)
