88 • Oveja Negra 2008 Reserva, Chardonnay-Viognier, Central Valley $12. Best Buy.
Brilliant yellow-straw hue. Classy cream and orange blossom aromas are marked by Viognier. A rich entry leads a weighty, rounded, moderately full-bodied palate with a supple texture. Acidity lends balance throughout. Lengthy, creamy finish. 82% Chardonnay, but the Viognier lends a sense of richness and flavor dimension to this unoaked blend. Interesting. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)
87 • Oveja Negra 2009 Reserva, Sauvignon Blanc-Carmenère, Maule Valley $12. Best Buy.
Bright yellow-straw hue with a slight spritz. Subdued, minerally, herbaceous aromas are Sauvignon dominant. A crisp entry leads a racy, medium-bodied palate with zesty acidity and clean herbaceous flavors. A solid Sancerre-style Sauvignon and in every way a white wine in style. Not sure where the Carmenère comes in, but solid. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)
86 • Tamaya 2008 Reserva, Viognier-Chardonnay, Limari Valley $14.99. Best Buy.
Deep yellow-straw hue. Ripe, creamy orange blossom and pear nose. A lush entry leads a rounded, moderately full-bodied palate with soft acidity. Rounded, drying finish. Show both Chardonnay and Viognier influence in equal parts. Try with poultry. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)
