96 • Prix 2007 Moskowite Ranch Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley $27.  Kosher
Bright yellow-straw hue. Rich, smoky lanolin and lemon meringue aromas show a fancy oak accent in a white Pessac style. A ripe entry leads a rounded, moderately full-bodied palate with forceful, powerful, old vine-like, complex flavors. A great marriage of ripe Napa Sauvignon fruit and French oak. Balanced, lengthy, and simply delicious. A great California Sauvignon in the white Bordeaux vein. So much more interesting than hi-octane, oak-driven Chardonnays. Wow. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
90 • Maryhill 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, Columbia Valley $10.49. Best Buy.
Bright yellow-straw hue. Perfumed, smoky tropical fruit aromas have a fresh herbaceous accent. A lush entry leads a rounded, medium-bodied palate with a supple texture and good intensity of flavor. Drying, herbal finish. A spectacular value. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
86 • Martha Clara Vineyard 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, North Fork of Long Island $17.99.
Bright straw hue. Varietally correct, pure lemon peel aromas have a subtle herbaceous edge. A crisp entry leads a steely, firm, medium-bodied palate with sharp acidity. Clean, tangy, pithy finish. A refreshing seafood style. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
86 • Rutherford Ranch 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley $14. Best Buy.
Bright straw hue. Attractive, herbaceous, minerally nose. A crisp entry leads a taut, medium-bodied palate with zesty acidity. Sharp, drying finish with a phenolic edge. Will work well with shellfish. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
86 • San Felipe 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, New Mexico.
Brilliant pale straw hue. Subdued, minerally, steely nose. A crisp entry leads an angular, drying, medium-bodied palate. Lightly flavored, but clean, crisp, and refreshing. A good choice for shellfish. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
83 • Hagafen 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley $18.  Kosher
Bright straw hue. High-toned peach skin and almond nose. A lean entry leads a drying, medium-bodied palate with fruity acidity. Has a touch of fruit sweetness through the finish. Drink now. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
