91 • Alexandria Nicole 2008 "Shepherds Mark White" Destiny Ridge Vineyards , Viognier, Horse Heaven Hills $20.
Brilliant straw hue. Clean, minerally orange blossom and fresh cream aromas. A crisp entry leads a firm, moderately full-bodied palate with a zesty acidic structure and good depth of flavor. Snappy, stone fruit-accented finish. A purely crafted southern white Rhône blend--two-thirds Rousanne with Marsanne and Viognier in support. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
91 • 509 Wine Company 2008 Viognier, Walla Walla Valley $18. Best Buy.
Brilliant straw hue. Toasty vanilla and lemon curd aromas show a fancy oak influence. A ripe entry leads a generous, moderately full-bodied palate with a lush texture and attractive fruit acidity. Tropical Viognier flavors meld nicely with the oak and lead to a lengthy finish. Admirably balanced and restrained. Will work well in place of Chardonnay. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
90 • Villa Toscano 2008 Viognier, Shenandoah Valley $20.
Deep yellow-straw hue. Slightly earthy, floral melon aromas. A ripe entry leads a rounded, full-bodied palate with a lush texture and bright acidity. Clean, creamy, lengthy finish. A solid choice to complement seafood. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
89 • Martha Clara Vineyard 2008 Viognier, North Fork of Long Island $18.99.
Brilliant straw hue. Perfumed, minerally peach and lemon meringue nose. A crisp entry leads a balanced, moderately full-bodied palate with fresh acidity and good depth of stone fruit flavor. Refreshing finish. A good choice for lobster or crab. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
87 • Clautiere Vineyards 2008 Estate, Viognier, Paso Robles $18.
Bright golden-straw hue. Subdued tropical fruit aromas have a sweet vanilla accent. A rich entry leads a weighty, buttery, full-bodied palate. A fat, unctuous, creamy style. Rounded, lush finish. Try with lobster if you have a hedonistic bent. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
87 • St. Clair 2007 Winemaker's Reserve, Viognier, New Mexico $11.99. Best Buy.
Deep golden-straw hue. Unusual cantaloupe aromas have a floral Orange-Muscat-like accent. A crisp entry leads a refreshing, medium-bodied palate with intense fruit flavors and zesty fruit acidity. Lengthy, clean, sharp, peachy finish. A bit unusual, but it really works. A balanced aperitif. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
86 • Vina Robles 2008 Huerhuero Vineyard, Viognier, Paso Robles $22.
Bright yellow-straw hue. Rich, creamy, warming aromas have a honeyed quality. A lush entry leads a rounded, full-bodied palate with a touch of alcoholic warmth. Soft, unctuous texture buoyed by acidity through the finish. Try with rich poultry dishes. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
84 • Lynfred 2008 Viognier, American $22.
Bright yellow-straw hue. Perfumed orange blossom and honeyed vanilla nose. A rich entry leads a fat, full-bodied palate with a weighty, supple texture. Rounded, creamy finish. A heavyweight. Drink in youth. (tasted on Oct-05-2009)
