91 • Auburn Road 2008 Reserve, Merlot, Outer Coastal Plain $22.99.
Subtle dried berries, walnut, and meat aromas with a round, dryish medium body and a gentle spice baked apple, sour cherry, cinnamon, forest floor, menthol tobacco and lemon accented finish. A flavorful, complex, table wine. (tasted on Jan-03-2011)
90 • Martha Clara Vineyard 2007 Estate Reserve, Merlot, North Fork of Long Island $25.99.
Aromas of chocolate malt balls, dried berries, pine needle, and dusty spices with a silky, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a tangy, zippy, baked apple, sundried tomato, and pencil shaving accented finish. A well balanced, Old World styled table wine. (tasted on Jan-03-2011)
88 • Biltmore Estate NV Merlot, American $14.99. Best Buy.
Aromas of candied plums and chocolate covered craisins with a supple, dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body and a tangy cherry sorbet and roasted nut finish. A solid sipper. (tasted on Jan-03-2011)
84 • Grove Winery 2009 Estate Bottled, Merlot, Haw River Valley $9.99.  Sustainable Agriculture
Garnet. Aromas of stewed berries, dusty herbs, and chocolate fondue with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a toasted oak, cinnamon bark, and peat moss on the finish. (tasted on Jan-03-2011)
84 • Two Rivers 2008 Merlot, Mesa County $12.75.
Aromas of crushed children's vitamin, walnut praline, and mixed berry pie with a silky, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a tangy cranberry and astringent St. Joseph's aspirin accented finish. A potentially very nice wine, but clumsy acidity holds it back. (tasted on Jan-10-2011)
84 • Martha Clara Vineyard 2007 Merlot, North Fork of Long Island $18.99.
Dark garnet color. Somewhat phenolic aromas of burnt berry bush, singed cocoa, cigar wrapper and cinnamon bark with a racy, dryish light-to-medium body and a crab apple, green tomato, lava stone, and pepper dust finish. A rustic, earthy wine to pair with grilled game. (tasted on Jan-03-2011)
