89 • Algodon Wine Estates 2008 Reserva, Chardonnay, San Rafael $13.99. Best Buy.
Golden straw color. Super rich and creamy creme brulee and graham cracker aromas follow through on a supple entry to a dryish medium-to-full body with delicate dried pineapple, yellow plum, and coconut shaving notes. Finishes with a toasty apple strudel accented fade. A lush, hedonistic, oak driven chardonnay with surprising balance. (tasted on Feb-15-2010)
87 • Alta Vista 2008 Classic, Chardonnay, Mendoza $13. Best Buy.
Aromas of floral honeyed papaya, lemon curd, and pineapple jelly follow through on a soft, shy entry to a dry, light-to-medium body with tart citrus peel and grass notes. Finishes with crisp, apple juice and earth accented fade. Reminiscent of Austrian chardonnay; a nice dry table wine for scallops. (tasted on Feb-15-2010)
