88 • Fabre Montmayou 2011 Reserva, Malbec, Mendoza $15.99.
Warm toasted brewers yeast notes dominate the bouquet. With air, black currants and a hint of violets come into play. Rich flavors and very old world "left bank" comparisons can be made. Quite tannic with good depth. (tasted on Feb-04-2013)
87 • The Naked Grape NV Malbec, Argentina $7.99. Best Buy.
Garnet color. Aromas of gherkin, peppery spice, and dried sour cherry with a silky, fruity medium-to-full body and a tangy, berry cobbler and cream, honeyed nut, and mineral accented finish. A nice zippy sipper. (tasted on Feb-04-2013)

86 • Alberti 154 2011 Malbec, Mendoza $14.99. Best Buy.  Sustainable Agriculture
Bright red fruits lead along with a delicate floral scent. A Triscuit wheat cracker scent also is a plus as is a hint of potters clay. (tasted on Feb-04-2013)
85 • Redwood Creek 2011 Malbec, Mendoza $8.
Interesting nose reminiscent of Christmas fruit cake and even suet pudding. Tangy, salted black currants came on along with a subtle mocha note. This wine is in need of a longer finish. (tasted on Feb-04-2013)
85 • Trapiche 2011 Oak Cask, Malbec, Mendoza $11.99.
Brambly aromas and a composted pile of leaves remain the first impression. Later some black currants and cotton ball scents came on. In spite of the odd scents it is a pretty easy drink with firm tannins shoring up the finish. (tasted on Feb-04-2013)
84 • Chessman 2010 Malbec, Mendoza $12.99.
Deep ruby color. Aromas of smoked cherries, herbs and caramel with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a tangy, roasted nut and chalk accented finish with pithy tannins. (tasted on Feb-04-2013)
83 • Trapiche 2010 Broquel, Malbec, Mendoza $16.99.
Funky old wood staves and salted nut shells are the lead scents. Later aromas reminiscent of black currants and plum pudding evolved. A donut wine with no mid-palate and a very tannic finish. (tasted on Feb-04-2013)
