88 • Summerhill Pyramid 2006 Pinot Noir, Okanagan Valley $20.06.  Organically Grown Grapes
Deep ruby color. Aromas of spicy mashed cherries and blueberries follow through on a brisk entry to a tart light-to-medium body with cranberry, dolmades, and apple butter notes. Finishes with an earthy almond skin, cedar bark, and slate accented fade. A fun, engagingly earthy wine. (tasted on Mar-17-2009)
86 • Tinhorn Creek 2006 Pinot Noir, Okanagan Valley $18.99.
Deep ruby color. Aromas of baked cherries, chocolate covered figs, and red peppers follow through on a soft, entry to a dryish medium body with cedar and peppery spice notes. Finishes with a tingling pencil shaving accented fade. (tasted on Mar-17-2009)
85 • Magnotta 2006 Special Reserve, Pinot Noir, Niagara Peninsula$11.60. Best Buy.
Deep garnet color. Complex aromas of smoked proscuitto and trout, olive, roasted tomatoes, and herbs follow through on a round, juicy entry to a fruity-yet-dry medium body with baked cherries, smoked cedar, and dried apple notes. Finishes with a long, smoldering cherry tobacco, jerky, graphite, fish oil, and wood spice inflected finish. A fascinating pinot that more resembles a wild and wooly South African pinotage. Pair with spicy rabbit stew. (tasted on Mar-18-2009)
