France: Rhone: Cornas

What is Cornas?
Cornas is a tiny appellation in the Northern Rhône with steep facing slopes on the banks of the Rhône river. Cornas is an extremely hearty red wine made exclusively from Syrah. The hill enjoys fine and prolonged exposure to the sun, and it is no wonder that the resultant wines are referred to as the "black" wines of Cornas. Rich, inky, and dense, this is serious red wine. Long in the shadow of the more famous neighboring appellations, Cote-Rotie and Hermitage, Cornas offers one of the finest values in the region, with bottlings often going for a fraction of the price.
