Deep purple color. Attractive aromas and flavors of chocolate halva with coconut, Nutella on cinnamon raisin toast, boysenberry jam, and crushed violet with a satiny, vibrant, fruity medium body and a graceful, amusing, medium-to-long finish with touches of spiced apricots, strawberry gelato, and gentian with soft, chewy tannins and a suggestion of oak flavor. A fruity, round, and juicy crowd-pleasing red blend that will make a great summer sipper; serve with a slight chill.

For the wine consumer jaded by the chocolate and vanilla worlds of Cabernet and Chardonnay, a little diversity in the nightly wine selection can offer a welcome respite. Though hardly the "next new thing," a number of regional specialties around the country are waiting to surprise the unsuspecting wine tourist and provide a welcome change of pace.

A number of these wines are made in states such as Wisconsin or Missouri, from grapes such as Marechal Foch, Frontenac and Marquette; they are idiosyncratic with tangy flavors and moderate tannins; they are meant for early consumption.
