Indigo color. Aromas and flavors of lavender potpourri, hand cream, plum paste, and crushed velvet and paw paw with a velvety, crisp, dry medium body and a warming, interesting, medium-length finish with accents of plum sauce on fabric, purple flower perfume, and lambic beer. A big, bold, and funky Marquette.

For the wine consumer jaded by the chocolate and vanilla worlds of Cabernet and Chardonnay, a little diversity in the nightly wine selection can offer a welcome respite. Though hardly the "next new thing," a number of regional specialties around the country are waiting to surprise the unsuspecting wine tourist and provide a welcome change of pace.

A number of these wines are made in states such as Wisconsin or Missouri, from grapes such as Marechal Foch, Frontenac and Marquette; they are idiosyncratic with tangy flavors and moderate tannins; they are meant for early consumption.
