Lake Michigan Shore
The Lake Michigan Shore AVA is located in southwestern Michigan. This is the epicenter of Michigan viticulture, as over 90 percent of the state's vineyards are located here, with about 50 percent of the state's wines produced from this zone. This is a cool-moderate climate with a very long growing season, which ca be beneficial in case of spring frosts in particular years. Production is largely focused on fruit wine, although there is a variety of other products, ranging from Port, to sparkling wine (often made from Riesling) to dry and off-dry whites made from Traminette.
