Limari Valley
Limari Valley is located in northwestern Chile, some 200 miles north of Santiago. Due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, this is a cool climate region and white varieties, especially Chardonnay, are ideal for this area. The valley is not far from the Atacama desert, so this is a dry, arid area - there is only about four inches of rain per year - meaning that water for the vineyards is largely a product of melting snow from the Andes. Along with Chardonnay, there are some excellent Sauvignon Blancs with bright melon fruit and distinct herbal notes, as well as plummy Syrahs that represent the best wines of Limari.
