Yolo County is located in northern California; in the northwestern reaches, the Dunnigan Hills AVA can be found. The climate here is Mediterranean, so this area is less prone to frosts than other nearby areas; this climate also provides for good natural acidity in the wines. Chardonnay, Syrah and Tempranillo are leading varieties. Only two or three wineries have ever been located in the Dunnigan Hills; production is concentrated on inexpensive whites, reds and rosés.
