Black violet color. Aromas and flavors of candied watermelon, blackberry pie, dark honey in earl grey tea, and tobacco leaf and green pepper with a thick, lively, dry full body and a warming, complex, very long finish that shows suggestions of rehydrated prunes, black plum, pomegranate in chocolate sauce, and thyme with chalky tannins and a suggestion of oak flavor. Black and red fruit compote with no sweetness; a great bbq wine or a charming pairing with a mole sauce.

While Portugal is best known for its production of Port wines, there are several types of red wine also produced in various regions. The best known of these include the robust reds produced from varieties that are used to produce Port, varieties such Touriga Nacional and Tinta Cao. These wines are produced in the Dour Valley and are ripe with black fruit flavors; the wines generally have slightly low acidity, due to the hot local climate. Drink these wines with rich red meats, game or aged cheeses.
