Nebbiolo d'Alba is produced exclusively from Nebbiolo in vineyards that are not in the Barolo or Barbaresco production zone. Flavors are similar to those more famous wines - notes of dried cherry, orange peel, tar and roses - yet the wine is lighter with less tannic bite. Thus the wines are more approachable at an earlier age - consume these wines from five to ten years in most cases.
As Nebbiolo d'Alba is lighter and not as famous as Barolo and Barbaresco, it is often a good value and can serve as an excellent introduction to these iconic reds. Pair these with most red meats, game or aged cheeses.
